ADOPTING A FRIEND
Adoption Process
CatsMeow - Voice for the Cats is an organization of volunteers. Our kitties
are Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids Negative, current on vaccines, dewormed,
and spayed or neutered. They live with us in foster homes, sometimes with
other cats, and sometimes with dogs, rabbits, or other animals. Some
animals are in homes with children, and some do better in adult only homes.
Since we live so closely with our little charges, we get to know them pretty
well. We ask you to complete an Adoption Application so that we may get an
idea of your home environment and we can help you choose just the right pet
for your family.
We may come to your home and bring the pets
you are interested in meeting, or we may ask you to meet us at the foster
home where the pet is most comfortable and you can see their personality
shining through. Our Adoption Counselors are able to discuss the history
and personality of each cat with a prospective adopter. Our goal is to try
to match the personality of the animal with the people and their home and
lifestyle.
What do I have to do to adopt?
We are dedicated to helping needy cats and
kittens, and our goal is to find appropriate, loving, permanent homes for
the animals in our care. To begin the adoption process, please complete the
Adoption Form and click the submit button. Please be thorough and
answer each question. This information is important and is only used to
help us match up just the right pet for you and your family. Be assured
your information will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared
with anyone outside this organization.
We want
you to prepare for your new friend. We ask you to think about your choice
and be sure that it is really what you want.
Once your information is received, one of the counselors will contact you to
arrange a mutually convenient time and place to meet the cats.
We want you to prepare for your new friend.
We ask you to think about your choice and be sure that it is really what you
want. For this reason, we ask each prospective adopter to complete an
application form. We may also require a home visit, and we do conduct follow
up phone call checks on all our animals to ensure that they and you are
happy and adjusting well. We encourage you to call us anytime if you have
questions or concerns about a pet you adopted from us.
All
potential adopters are asked to sign an adoption agreement before taking
their new pet home. This is an agreement that they will care for the
animal in a humane and responsible manner, and will provide regular
veterinary care and emergency treatment if needed. They also agree that
they will never turn it over to any animal pound or other shelter without
first giving this organization the opportunity to place the animal in
another home in the event they can no longer keep it.
ADOPTION DONATION
An adoption fee helps pay for a vet exam, FeLV/FIV tests, vaccinations,
dental check and cleaning (as needed), deworming, and sterilization. Many
animals also come in with injuries or illnesses and each one is evaluated
and treated appropriately. Our organization is comprised totally of unpaid
volunteers and 100% of all adoption donations go to the care and treatment
of the animals.
